Shakayla Murillo: The Secretary Elect

Ready to make a change? Meet Shakayla Murillo, the newly elected Secretary of the Stann Creek Ecumenical Student Council!

If you have heart and vision, you made the right decision by voting for Shak.

Ecumenical Student Council Blog recently interviewed Shakayla Murillo, who won the election for Student Council Secretary. Shakayla is a 16-year-old student who is dedicated and enjoys taking on new challenges. She was inspired to run for office because she wants to bring change to Ecumenical, with a particular focus on improving the school bathroom facilities. When asked about the qualities of a good leader, Shakayla emphasized the importance of listening to others' opinions, a trait she believes she possesses. She spoke passionately about addressing the issue of bullying in her school and her plans to combat it.

Shakayla's previous experience as a primary school president and class officer will undoubtedly serve her well in her new position. Despite the stereotype that females should be secretaries, Shakayla chose to run for this position, believing that it was the best way for her to make a difference. As a responsible, respectful, and decent young lady who loves listening to the voices of others, Shakayla plans to listen to the opinions of others and devise a strategic plan to present to the student body. Even if she disagrees with someone's opinion, she intends to communicate respectfully.

Shakayla is an honor roll student who intends to balance her academic responsibilities with her duties as a student council member. She had the opportunity to address the entire student body, Shakayla encourage them to continue to support her because she is passionate about making positive changes at Ecumenical, and she cares deeply about the well-being of her fellow students.
